The School of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science (SCEMS) has gone through the development history of the Department of Chemistry, the School of Science, the School of Mathematics, Physics and Chemical Engineering, and now has three undergraduate majors, namely, Chemical Engineering and Technology (the first-class major in Jiangsu Province, the construction site of Jiangsu Province's industry education integration brand specialty), Composite Materials and Engineering, and Resource Recycling Science and Engineering. SCEMS involves the Department of Chemical Engineering, the Department of Resource Environment, the Department of Composite Materials, the Central Laboratory. SCEMS also established some research institutions, such as Resources and Environment Research Institute, Industral College of Carbon Fiber New Materials, Jiangsu High Value Patent Center, Jiangsu Engineering Technology Center, ect.

After years of internal training and external introduction, the structure of educational background, academic background, professional title and age of the faculty of the SCEMS has been greatly improved. Among the 66 teaching staff, there are 53 full-time teachers with 6 professors and 20 vice professors, including 53 with doctoral degrees, accounting for 100%. Many people were awarded the titles of experts enjoying special allowance by the State Council, provincial 333 talents, provincial six peaks talents, provincial blue project talents and teams, and provincial “Entrepreneurship and Innovation Program” talents. In addition, 34 industry professors were employed in the process of integration of industry and education, forming a team of full-time and part-time teachers who devote themselves to teaching, are keen on innovation, and are united and diligent.

The SCEMS attaches great importance to discipline construction and scientific and technological innovation, and the discipline of Materials and Chemical Engineering (code 0856) has been listed as the key discipline for master's degree construction. Adhering to the local and application-oriented school running idea, the SCEMS has established a good cooperative relationship with many enterprises in Changzhou City and the Yangtze River Delta region, formed a number of characteristic teams for the deep processing of rare and precious metals, the treatment and disposal of electronic waste, high-end fine chemicals, etc.

The SCEMS undertakes a number of national and provincial research projects, including 23 projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (both the general and young projects). The annual research funds amount to 10 million yuan. Teachers have published over 160 high-quality papers, obtained 60 invention patents, and significantly enhanced their research capabilities. The SCEMS also focuses on educational and teaching reform, continuously improving teaching quality, and has won several teaching-related awards such as the Special Prize for Educational Achievements of Sinopec. In addition, the SCEMS actively conducts international exchanges and cooperation, establishing partnerships with many internationally renowned universities and research institutions, providing teachers and students with broad international perspectives and communication opportunities.

The developing college needs an open mind and a down-to-earth style of study. Open and inclusive, collaborative innovation has become the school philosophy of the SCEMS and the teaching and research guide for all teachers. The SCEMS will take the initiative to meet the development needs of many industries in Changzhou and the Yangtze River Delta region, such as chemical industry, new materials, resources and environment. It will take an active role in personnel training, scientific and technological innovation, social services, etc., and strive to build the college into a talent training base and scientific and technological innovation source with distinctive characteristics, domestic status, and international influence in the field of chemical industry and materials, To make due contributions to the construction of a distinctive and high-level application-oriented local university.
